 Darwon
Stoneman was guiding Heli-Skiing before a lot of our guides
were born. He grew up in Fairbanks Alaska and after graduating from
the University of Alaska started working on the Alta Ski Patrol in 1971.
In 1978 he started Guiding for Ruby Mountain Heli-Ski. The following
year he started working for Wasatch Powderbird Guides, where he was the
Lead Guide for many years. He is also Co-owner and Founder of Glacier
Raft Company in Montana. After many years of moving his two children back
and forth between Utah and Montana the kids got to High School and decided
to stay in Montana. At that time, with permission from a very understanding
wife, it was easier to spend time Guiding in Alaska. He spent one
year with Valdeze Heli-Ski and in1998 started working for CPG. After
5 years he had to take a few years off to work out a knee problem and thanks
to modern technology and a titanium knee he returned last year feeling
stronger than ever.
With over 30 years
of guiding and working in the mountains and on the rivers Darwon has a
wealth of knowledge which he loves to share with the people he is around.
He lives by the motto “You are only young once but you can be immature
forever”.
When not guiding
on the rivers or skiing he enjoys fishing and hunting in Alaska and Montana.
Most falls he is among the missing with his Bow and Mules in the mountains
of Montana.
