Winter
Greetings!
Things
are getting cold and snowy here in the Chugach Range and we are getting
ready for the upcoming heli-ski season. This is going to be a big
year for Chugach Powder Guides with the opening of a whole new second
heli-skiing operation. With over 1,000,000 acres of terrain accessible
in the new areas out of the Tordrillo Mountain Lodge in the Alaska Range
and our recent expansion in ski terrain out of the operation in Girdwood,
we seem to be back in the business of pioneering descents. Check
out information on this year's ski programs and the latest news below.
May the snow fall plentifully at your home resorts. The whole crew
at Chugach Powder Guides hopes to see you this winter!

MULTIPLE
WINTER OPERATIONS
We
are pleased to have a number of ski offerings this year. From the
world famous Chugach lines out of Girdwood where we cut our teeth and made
our reputation, to new exploratory opportunities in Seward and out of our
new
lodge in the Alaska Range, we know that the opportunities for great
fun in the mountains are limitless.
CPG
Ski Areas

Girdwood
The
program out of Girdwood is stronger than ever. We will be running
two A-Star helicopters in Girdwood this year. As you may recall,
we recently received a permit expansion giving us access to nearly 750,000
acres of terrain. This makes for a lot of opportunity to fly and ski in
the type of terrain that suits you. After 11 years of skiing here,
we are still finding new lines. Our Girdwood season will
be ten weeks, beginning on February 10th. As always, our proximity
to Alyeska Resort and over 1,000
acres of snowcat skiing for no-fly back-up, assure that if you are going
to come all the way to Alaska, you are going to ski. Speaking of
Alyeska, they have now added a FULL
SERVICE SPA to the hotel that even offers couples massage. Check
it out if you come to see us or if you come for US Nationals in Girdwood.
See
the latest Girdwood package details.
Tordrillo
Mountain Lodge
Join
us for our inaugural season in the Tordrillo Mountains of the Alaska Range.
Besides the immensity of the mountains, this wilderness ski experience
is different in that we never have more
than 12 guests. This gives you all
of the flexibility and volume of skiing of a private without having to
come up with a private group yourself. This area was featured in
the November 2006 issue of Outside.
With a gourmet chef, masseuse, wireless internet and top shelf amenities,
the lodge stay itself is worth the trip, not to mention the opportunity
to be a part of history as we pioneer a whole new un-tapped range.
Check
it out.
Seward
Privates
Our
exploration in the Seward area continues. You might recall seeing
this amazing terrain in last year's Warren Miller film, "Higher Ground"
(You can see the
clip here). The incredible fjords of the North Gulf Coast offer
skiing with water vistas 270 degrees around. We are offering Seward
adventures as private bookings this year based from a great lodge with
all food included. Get
the details here.

Conquering
Mount Spurr...
Our
second week in the Tordrillos last winter was in the company of Higher
Ground Productions, an ABC film crew working on a big screen documentary
on the history and progression of skiing. This film is supposed to
be a deeper look into the history and progression of big mountain skiing,
something akin to "Riding Giants". Our crew included Moe,
Nobis,
Kim
Reichelm,
Greg
Harms,
Ingrid
Backstrom (check out her write-up on the trip), Bill
Dyer and others. The crew ranged far across the Tordrillos shooting
amazing scenics in areas like the Kichatina Spires and skied a variety
of classic film lines, culminating the shoot with a descent of Mount Spurr.
Nobis, Moe, Overcast and the whole crew were extremely euphoric after skiing
this still active volcano. Check
out the report and slide show... |

Film
Segments
In addition
to working with the High Ground Productions folks on their ski documentary,
CPG worked with our friends at Teton Gravity Research and Warren Miller
Films on a couple of great film segments last year. Keep an eye out
for them as they hit your town....
TGR
Last
year, TGR came and did a double header with us in Girdwood and in Seward
filming for the new flick, Anomaly. Their crew consisted of Sage
Cattabriga, Kye Petersen, Cody Barnhill and Candide Thovex hit combinations
of big lines, back country mini-golf and constructed kickers way back in
the Chugach. Watch for those yellow and white helicopters in Anomaly!
Also, don't forget to enter
the TGR contest to win a week with Chugach Powder Guides!

Warren
Miller
It's
always great to have Warren Miller out with us. Especially when they
are accompanies by our old friends, Reggie and Zach Crist. Reggie
and Zach are buddies of our from way back and having them around is always
good for some laughs. This year the boys were successful in bagging
some pretty big trophy lines in our back yard, and we even got to land
the bird in the back door of the Alyeska Prince Hotel!

Summer Programs
Summer
at the Tordrillo Mountain Lodge
When you trace this project
all the way back, it all started with Kings and Corn, our summer corn skiing
and heli-fishing adventure program. Well, the Kings and Corn project
lives on with a new vitality and we are adding full multi-sport adventure
itineraries for that summer and fall period after the corn and the kings
disappear. We have been down such a long road with the Tordrillo
Mountain Lodge, that a lot of people seem to be wondering where things
stand now. Check out a letter from CPG partner Mike Overcast on the
state
of the lodge.
Here are some details
on our summer programs:
Kings
and Corn
We
will be offering six sessions of Kings and Corn this summer, starting in
early June through early July. If you've always dreamed of doing
this trip, now is your chance. There are still a few seats left.
If you want to do this, you better bring your stamina and your sense of
adventure, because you've NEVER had this much fun.
Summer
Multi-Sport Adventures at the TML
We
will be offering daily excursions for heli-fishing and full multi-sport
itineraries. The surrounding rivers are just getting started when
we are fishing during K&C. July brings the fat rainbows in as well
as an enormous run of Reds (55,000 this year passed the lodge) August is
great fishing as well. Silvers had filled the system by August 5th, with
opportunities throughout the Tal, from the lodge to the mouth. We will
have a helicopter available for excursions all season long. For those of
you who may not be interested in the fishing, we will have numerous other
activities available. Also offered will be guided white water and scenic
runs in inflatable kayaks and rafts, glacier hikes and exploration, heli
hikes in the alpine, wildlife viewing, and flight seeing into Denali or
the Kitchatna spires. There will be plenty of activities to choose from,
for a couple of days or a full week.
Rafting
Adventures
Check
out our rafting site for info
on custom Alaskan rafting adventures including a four
day trip on the Talkeetna River, through the sluicebox canyon - the
longest continuous rapid in North America. |
