::NEWS - New Snowcat, Expanded Terrain and Destination Cat Packages

CPG is proud to announce the acquisition of a new snowcat and expansion of our snowcat skiing terrain. In our continual effort to improve the quality of our snowcat skiing experience, CPG has acquired a second Bombardier snowcat with a deluxe passenger cabin, captains chairs and a premium sound system.

To take advantage of the additional snowcat capacity, the CPG crew spent the summer cutting a new cat road to open up another 500 acres of ski terrain. The new road will enable us to get our snowcats all the way to the top of A-1 Glacier and beyond.

After many years of requests, CPG has added destination snowcat and snowcat combo packages to the menu, allowing traveling guests to take advantage of the cat skiing adventures as more than just a helicopter backup option. Package details can be found below.

Since 1998, Chugach Adventure Guides has supplemented the heli operation with an 11-seat Bombardier Snowcat. The snowcat is a versatile and less expensive alternative to the helicopter, as well as a welcome addition to our heli packages. CAG operates an exclusive 1,500 acre (608 hectare) snowcat area located in the upper Girdwood Valley adjacent to Alyeska Resort.  Exciting mountain terrain, sweeping views, open powder cruising in alpine bowls, steep pitches and the finest tree skiing and boarding in Alaska is part of this experience.

:: weather and conditions
Our snowcat area receives 600-800 inches annually. A coastal weather system prevails, with mostly mild temperatures.

::terrain
CAG pioneered the terrain in the snowcat area that is commonly referred to as “Winner Creek.” Notch and Sunny Side, the mountains we access, share a large bowl with complex terrain.  The area has great tree skiing in the lower elevations and alpine terrain above 1,500 feet of elevation. During storm cycles we utilize the dispersed tree skiing to provide visibility in the nearly white-out conditions. These tree runs average 1,200 vertical feet and cat roads access both mountains with relatively fast cycles. It is not uncommon to ski 8-10 runs on a storm day. On clear days we start descents off the summit. This terrain is very appealing, serving both steeps and gentle bowls for all skill levels. When necessary, avalanche mitigation is conducted with explosives.

Stand-by seats are available at a reduced rate on the morning of a reserved day.

If we cannot fly due to weather, a guaranteed seat on the snowcat can be reserved for your heli package at a nominal cost.  Snowcat skiing/boarding is our all-weather alternative to the helicopter.
