Kings & Corn is our infamous summer adventure: 5 days of skiing and fishing in the heart of the Alaskan wilderness with Chugach Powder Guides. Kings & Corn features the best of “The Last Frontier” including King Salmon and Trout fishing, corn snow heli-skiing and snowboarding, and whitewater rafting in one helicopter supported trip. It is rapidly becoming known as one of the most spectacular and sought-after heli-ski and King Salmon fishing locations in the world. For anyone who like to ski and fish, this is as good as it gets!
Location & Terrain
Winterlake Lodge is sits in the expansive Skwentna River system. To the East, Mt. McKinley towers at 20,320 feet, while to the South and West, the massive Tordrillo Mountains dominate the skyline. The surrounding terrain lays out massive glaciers and towering peaks that go on and on and on. The zone is humbling, but also remarkable and awe-inspiring. The ski terrain is vast and can accommodate all levels of skiers. By summertime, the snowpack has become isothermic and avalanches are not a concern, allowing guests to ski a huge variety of terrain from long cruisers to steep faces and tight chutes. The Tordrillo mountains feature some of the most dramatic couloirs in the world!
Temperatures in the Tordrillo Mountains from early June through early July can range from highs of 60-70 degrees during the day with cooler temperatures ranging 25-40 degrees at night. Weather in the Tordrillos is typically drier than coastal Alaska or the Chugach range in summer. As with any mountain climate, conditions can vary greatly from day to day. With nearly 24 hours of daylight we have the ultimate flexibility to wait unit conditions are optimal. Don't be surprised if you find us spooling up the helicopter after dinner!
Surrounding the dates of the Summer Solstice, our Kings and Corn package offers guests the opportunity to experience endless days of non-stop action. With mountain temperatures freezing during the night and warming during the day, June corn skiing in the Tordrillo Mountains is at its finest. Our trips are also scheduled to hit the peak of the King Salmon run, as well as prime whitewater rafting, hiking, and lakeside entertainment.
